Hello,

I had about 20-30 cm of topsoil spread over the old lawn. I modeled it as best as I could with a rake. Currently, it is settling, and I want to start modeling and sowing after April.

I noticed that working with a shovel and rake is hard work. There are about 80-100 square meters to be cultivated. What do you think, would it be better to rent a proper petrol-powered tiller or to buy a small electric tiller (1050 W)?

Does anyone have experience?

Apart from the fact that I would also put welding work out to tender, I can only advise against these handheld tillers in your case. My neighbor had a similar case: lawn sown in autumn, which was then full of weeds last summer. He then used this handheld tiller all summer to loosen everything up and over three weekends with four people they pulled out the weeds, spread topsoil, compacted it, and sowed in autumn. It may have been more weekends, but for me it felt like the whole summer including autumn. You won't really need the tiller anymore for a 100sqm garden anyway.

Have fun

You will only rarely need to dig up this area, so buying a garden tiller is not particularly worthwhile. So forget about buying one and instead borrow such a thing if necessary, it’s simply more cost-effective.

Depending on how badly the lawn was infested with weeds, it was probably done incorrectly by you, as the building expert wrote. Maybe it would be better not to sow the lawn this year but instead to use this area as a growing space for potatoes, beans, carrots, or something like that. Then you would have a good and easy opportunity throughout the year to combat spreading weeds.

Hello thanks for the tips!

YES I know... Dad already scolded me. Well the lawn was only a few months old anyway but still already blessed with weeds

It was either flop or top. The neighbor had an excavator and the ground. No chance to react much anymore.

What do you think about lawn fertilizer with weed killer?

Where you say it... My aforementioned neighbor used Roundup beforehand. However, I don't think anything of it at all!

First of all, the soil should not be immediately tilled; it must first be "driven on." That means it is roughly divided into furrows. Afterwards, it must dry because otherwise the tiller gets stuck and sticks to the soil.

As soon as the soil is superficially dry, the tiller is passed through.

Everything about weeds and your previous approach has already been explained.

I recommend rental devices that are gasoline-powered. They move more easily due to the engine that drives them forward. Even with the appropriate equipment, it is very strenuous work.

Ask your local gardener. He can certainly refer someone who has experience and can bring the equipment along.

21 years of agriculture (hobby of my parents-in-law with our help)... and yet it is still a damn job that amateurs often underestimate.

By the way, two different devices are necessary to do it properly, as described above.
