Solid Wood Fence

Hey Madmax

So, we also have a fairly large property and asked ourselves the same question. A "chain link fence" :D we just found pretty awful. It doesn’t look nice but cheap.

We then decided on a garden fence made of wood. All in all, this was really an affordable solution.

So, near you there is surely a sawmill/carpentry shop. There you can inquire about the cost of slab boards (the cut of a tree or whatever it’s called ). Then you only need the round wooden posts to drive in directly. Or square posts and matching post brackets (these are available for driving in or for concrete setting at the hardware and DIY store). We have had such a fence for 3 years now and are actually satisfied with it. Not even our big dog manages to escape because with this system you can vary the height as needed. However, you really need to find an affordable carpenter who supplies these slab boards. But that’s just a few phone calls. Also, a price comparison at the hardware and DIY store regarding the post brackets is definitely worthwhile given the quantity...

I hope I could help you a bit

Regards Dani

Hello Daniela

that doesn't sound bad.

We will also soon move into our semi-detached house and we also have a dog (Golden Retriever)
For us it's only about 20 meters but I think the thing with the Schwartenbretter is great.
How high is your fence or how many boards do you have stacked on top of each other.
Isn't that also called a Bonanza fence

Fence and dogs...

I think your fence height is probably a bit too low. For example, we have 2 German Shepherds. The secure fence height for those animals is 1.80m! However, we preferred to build privacy fences. And partly double rod fences. We have 210m2 of land. So it wasn’t a cheap solution, but a safe one...

Hello you

So we made 4 boards with some space in between stacked on top of each other. It doesn't look bad. We also have two large mixed breeds (size of a German Shepherd), but so far we have never had the problem that they could escape over the fence.

They are actually outside in the garden almost all day. As a precaution, we already bought the posts a bit taller, and if it becomes necessary, we can still attach a 5th row of split boards and thereby easily raise the fence.

Regards

Hey dude We have very nice neighbors. We live in a very rural area. If we were to use a privacy screen for a fence at our place, they would all think we are crazy. Also, if you take such a robust privacy screen, it is not really a very inexpensive solution. Especially if you have to enclose a large area. Seydo
