Garage directly attached to single-family house. Is the foundation sufficient?

Hello,

we now have the house almost ready to start construction. Now the question is whether I should have the GU build a foundation at the house wall as he suggests. For a 9m garage, he wants to create 3x 30cm foundation tubes (supposed to cost 1000€). Wouldn't it be enough if I have the garage company do it with a strip foundation?

Hello, who is responsible for the structural stability verification, meaning the statics? It should be documented there. Or is the garage being built without statics?

Regards

I guess the one I give the order to will do it. But I haven't done that yet. My general contractor is responsible for the structural calculations for the house and bases it on that. I've heard from another source that a strip foundation is enough for a garage.

Hello,

Yes, a strip foundation is sufficient – and as you described it, your general contractor is offering you a strip foundation; the price is – by the way – completely reasonable.

Best regards

Hi, just to make sure I understand correctly: Your general contractor wants to create a strip foundation with a depth of 3cm at the house wall for your garage? Is your house exterior wall at the same time the interior wall of the garage? How deep should the foundations for the exterior walls of the garage be? Regards

no

He wants to pull up a 30cm pipe from a depth of 3m, i.e. from the bottom edge of the basement to the top edge of the basement (3 pieces over 9m). As for the strip foundation, he is not talking about that at all for now.
He just wants to properly secure the side towards the house, how the garage will be built with an additional foundation is not the subject of discussion right now.

That's why I'm asking, because I have no idea about this and had assumed that a strip foundation would be sufficient.

That might possibly be added later?!
