Hello everyone,
we are currently building a semi-detached house through a developer. Our wish is to make our gallery railing out of glass. However, the extra cost from the stair builder is incredibly high for this. According to our own research, there are numerous providers on the internet who manufacture these railings cost-effectively. Does anyone have experience with how complicated the installation is when done independently or can give me tips on which industries to contact for installation? Possibly the information that we have underfloor heating could be important. I would be very happy to receive your feedback

The problem with glass railings is that there are many ways to do it wrong. You need someone who plans it and adapts it to the boundary conditions. Just ordering something from the internet will go wrong 100%. What is it supposed to cost with the [Bauträger]? If it really is a [Bauträger], you’re not allowed to interfere anyway, which means he builds his railing, and then you have to tear it down again.

That is certainly specialty glass... and specifically expensive

What is it supposed to cost? Under 300€/m it won't happen.

Do you mean the online price? What I've learned by now (at least I assume so) is that for almost all craft services including material (here the railing) in the real world the online price has to be doubled to arrive at a somewhat realistic price including material and installation (except for DIY store items). It may be nonsense but everywhere I researched regarding an elevated terrace it was like that, e.g. for the railing, terrace decking, stairs, etc.

We also have such a railing, directly from the glazier. It cost us almost €2000 for 4m. Since all of this required quite a bit of coordination, I would recommend leaving it to the general contractor, or coordinating early. If it’s supposed to look nice, a lot has to be considered in terms of fastening so that the leverage doesn’t make the thing wobble...

What does your general contractor want for it?
