Fruit espaliers as a "garden fence"

Purpose of the enclosure: I don't want deer and wild boars in the garden.

They won't be bothered by espalier fruit trees, but definitely by a trellis that consistently fences your garden. Espalier fruit trees are not suitable as room dividers or barriers, nor are dwarf or miniature trees. There's only trunk with gaps, nothing more.

I'm at a loss right now. What do you mean by that?

That the trunks are not standing trunk to trunk, but as in my example picture there is a lot of space between the trunks. This happens when you plant espalier trees or ball-shaped trees. They are not suitable for a dense hedge. Anyone can get through – whether big or small animal.

Espalier fruit is not suitable for wild boar protection. It is not necessarily the case that wild boars cause a lot of damage. At our company, they just walk through and that's it. Deer nibble on everything. Although I like it when they are there. I would only build a fence where they really shouldn't go, e.g. around the vegetable garden. Roses and the like are more for the appearance.

For [Sauen] you need a sturdy fence and for deer a relatively high fence. The forestry department usually takes 1.60m.

And the pigs are happy about the free apples every autumn. :)

But it seems counterproductive to me to choose a nutritious enclosure. Maybe you should look into "scent fences".
