Hello,
a friend of mine wants to install (have installed) a toilet on the exterior wall of his prefabricated house.
But for that, a preliminary wall is necessary.
A preliminary wall is basically useful as a later shelf, right??? That is my question.
What are your experiences?
Thanks, Tom

We don't have one at the washbasin, and that's a good thing. A lot of shelf space means a lot of stuff lying around, and a lot of cleaning. Most of our things are in the mirror cabinet and don’t collect dust. Only a few things on the washbasin.
It’s the same with the toilet.

Old building or new building? How are water and wastewater planned? Specifically regarding the question about the toilet. Where should the flush tank go? Or push flush valve on the surface (1950s style)? Normally, a pre-fabricated element is used for this, which also includes a front wall. I don't think the exterior wall should be chiseled to a depth of 30 cm. Of course, the front wall can also be extended up to the ceiling. This kind of thing is installed - either drywall or built-in masonry. With the washbasin, it doesn't matter. It can also simply be mounted on the wall. However, with a front wall, everything is a bit easier since pipes can also be hidden in the front wall, and the walls don't necessarily have to be chiseled.

However, you lose space in the room due to the front wall. This should be considered for the washbasin.

A front wall is basically useful later as a shelf, right??? That is my question. What are your experiences? Not only does your friend have a "prefab" house, but you also want one (although we don't yet know why). Of course, the front wall won't be "masonry" there. I have something like that myself; before I moved in, the bathroom in my rental apartment was renovated. The windowsill was, so to speak, extended over the former flush tank and the new flush tank integrated. This makes for a more elegant appearance and easier cleaning than the backpacks that used to hang there in front of the wall. However, to my knowledge, this retro alternative has not been offered for ages.
