Hello everyone,
I have a few questions:
1. Grain size of gravel:
We are building with a general contractor. He wrote to us the requirement for the foundation cushion:
The grain size must not be larger than 0/32 and not smaller than 0/5, with the silt content not exceeding 5%. Ideally, a grain mixture of grain size 0/32 is used. For the creation of the clean layer for a house with a basement, the use of gravel or crushed stone with a grain size of 8/11 to 8/22 is to be provided.

We are getting waterproof basements from Glatthaar. According to the protocol from Glatthaar, gravel 0/32 or 0/45 is to be used.

Question: how much does 0/45 differ from 0/32? (apart from the size: one is from 0 to 45 mm, the other gravel is from 0 to 32 mm)

2. Proof of quality: the general contractor wrote to me:
The compaction degree of the foundation cushion required in the soil report must be documented in writing. The legally unambiguous test report must include the note that the compaction degree required in the soil report was achieved. If this is not the case, recommendations must be attached to the test protocol on how the required compaction degree can be achieved. Afterwards, another compaction test is necessary.

Question:
--> who does that? Soil expert? Have you done something like this as well?

3. Quality of gravel:
Attached is a picture of the gravel. I have no idea about it. I heard that many earthworkers use recycled material (or poor quality material), and it causes problems. What do you think of this gravel?

Thank you for your help and I wish you a nice weekend.

Regarding 1) I think the main contractor will tell his basement subcontractor exactly which material is to be installed.

Regarding 2) I don’t understand. The main contractor wants proof of the stability of his own foundation cushion?

Regarding 3) Well, although the picture is missing, I can’t imagine that your main contractor would have inferior material installed, after all, as the main contractor he is responsible for the overall warranty towards you.

1: I hope so too. Now the two protocols differ
2: I have subsequently removed earthworks (or rather, have to remove them)
3: forgot to upload the picture
