Floor-to-ceiling windows opening outward, for more usable space inside

Morning dear Forianer,

I have almost only floor-to-ceiling windows on the ground floor and partly things in front of them or just a small room (all still in planning). Outward opening could help here.

Do people do that/not? Is it maybe not allowed?
Why not? Brilliant? Crazy idea? Crazy but doable? Old news?

Best regards

Tolentino

Classic herd instinct: Schulzes don't do that because Meiers, Müllers, and Beckers all don't do it. Almost no one outside the Waterkant has Klöntüren either. Which elements were you thinking of specifically?

Hi, why do there always have to be floor-to-ceiling windows everywhere? In areas where seating corners or other things are planned, you can just install normal windows. They are 1. cheaper, 2. easier to clean, and you still have a windowsill to put something on. At the moment, we also have floor-to-ceiling ones everywhere and partly they are annoying. Regards, Olli

How can one imagine windows that open outward? Depending on the size of the sash, I would have to lean quite far out of the window to close it again. Or do they have a maximum opening? We also have a lot of window surface area and especially now in winter you can definitely feel that they emit a bit of cold. I wouldn’t want to sit on the couch in front of a floor-to-ceiling window.

Never seen before. Disadvantages that come to mind spontaneously:

- in rain, the elements get completely wet
- opening and closing not possible without going outside (really stupid!)
- custom-made, since frame and door would have to be swapped (expensive)

Seriously? What kind of windows are those? In a new building, the new windows shouldn’t emit any noticeable cold but should have an interior temperature close to that of the room. Otherwise, I also find outward-opening windows impractical. Normally, you don’t just fully open regular windows anyway – at least, I wouldn’t do that all the time. Outward-opening windows also always mean that you can only reach the outside of the window from the outside when cleaning it. That’s really crappy with a single sash window on the upper floor...
