Hello everyone!

Attached is a first layout of our house, specifically our kitchen. Do you find it too big or the walking distances too long? We are two parents + three small children. The kitchen will be slightly smaller. This means the wall of the utility room will be moved about 60 cm into the kitchen to create a cloakroom niche in front of the stairs. We would probably like to have a kitchen island as a work surface. Do you have any ideas? Another question: Would you keep the door to the utility room as it is, or move it into the kitchen? Of course, this would reduce space for furniture, but it would provide direct access. ??

A large kitchen is always great!

You don’t need a door to the kitchen at all. Get rid of it – access only through the living area.

That’s how our kitchen was planned. Including a cooking (half) island. On the back side, wall cabinets placed on the floor with all the dishes inside.

I would definitely go for an "aircraft carrier" with the larger one. It looks nice and tidy and theoretically you can still put a terrace door between the kitchen island and the tall cabinets (to quickly grab herbs from the garden).

Nice idea, however my wife would like a window in front of the sink. We are a bit concerned that the kitchen will become too huge.

I have a question about this. Basically, I usually prefer wall cabinets to base cabinets because they typically have nicer details. Is there a practical reason for distinguishing between wall cabinets and base cabinets, or can they be swapped freely? Because then I would also use wall cabinets on the floor wherever possible instead of base cabinets. Your post is the first time I’ve read that someone does this.

Are they interchangeable with all kitchen manufacturers? Honestly, I can’t say. I think we had a Nobilia kitchen, and it wasn’t a problem there at all. It also fit great – with glass doors and matching lighting.
