Hello,

we are building a timber frame house (KFW55) and want to install a wood stove in the living room. We also have a controlled residential ventilation system (Vallox ValloPlus SE 510), a central vacuum system (Fawas), and a range hood (we want to keep the current one, but it is currently operating as an exhaust system).

How does it all fit together so that no smoke is drawn from the stove? It apparently already seals well, but when reheating, the stove door is opened, right?

Do I need to convert the range hood to recirculation mode?

Thanks for your tips, Thomas

Hello Thomas,

where is your new wood stove supposed to get the combustion air from? Does it draw it from the living room or is it supplied independently of the room air, for example via the chimney (fresh air duct installed in the chimney)?

Is the stove certified by the DIBt?

I would convert the extractor hood to recirculation mode, if only for energy reasons.

The final decision on this matter will be made anyway by your responsible district chimney sweep master.

He would also be a good contact person on the topic in advance.

Regards,

Dirk

You have to ask all that to your district chimney sweep, not us. Every chimney sweep sees it a bit differently and he ultimately has to approve it.

Yes, of course he has to approve all that. I just didn't want to appear so "naked" when I talk to him...

Hello, tommo!

It depends on the power of the extractor hood and should be tested during operation. You’d be surprised what such an extractor hood actually draws when it’s running at full capacity. It may be necessary to connect an opening to the extractor hood, e.g., then a window in the kitchen is forcibly opened slightly by a motor when the extractor hood is running at the highest setting.

Best regards

Fresh air duct installed in the chimney.

It will probably be a Hark fireplace.

Does anyone have experience with Hark?

Thanks,
Tom
