Thank you very much for the detailed answer! Had we known it would turn out like this, we would indeed have had the small area in the hallway glued as well... unfortunately, we were not informed about this.

Just talk to the parquet layer again! It makes more sense to re-lay this small platform using the adhesive method than to be annoyed every day for the next few years. Here, it would also have been the contractor’s duty to advise and to show options.

2 mm can be managed by planing, milling, etc., better beforehand, but with hard woods it may still be possible now. A strip always adds more height anyway.

The problem at such points is that the user’s instinct does not anchor vigilance at the technical component transition, but at the step edge. Approaching from above, the stumbling may already have happened (and that before grabbing the handrail). Where the planner does not think, the doer breaks a sweat.

Hello again and many thanks for all your tips!
We have now been able to negotiate a tolerable solution for us. One can only ask: Why not like this right away?
The parquet is now laid floating almost up to the edge, the transition strip is straight. Visually much better and no longer dangerous.
We are satisfied!

...and the ugly hallway, which was on the right, has fortunately also disappeared in this way!

I still do not consider a transition rail there to be the ultimate solution. But it now looks significantly more harmonious, and if you are satisfied, then a substantial progress has been made.
