What is the general attitude towards children and employment? How long is the current parental leave planned?

If your little one, as is not so unusual in the East, starts daycare in the fall while mom works 75% (and that works well!), then everything looks much more relaxed than if she wants to stay at home for two years and a second child is born in between.

You can temporarily make some compromises, at least I neither ran into pubs nor constantly went shopping with a baby. Over a longer term, once parental leave is behind you and both parents work the hours they can initially maintain, it has to work.

Too bad, the OP probably doesn't want to put up with this disproportionate discussion anymore

I don't find it disproportionate given the rising interest rates and inflation. Rather responsible to carefully think through the whole package.

Well, when he was absent, it was probably more the opinions like "kids cost 500€, even if it's just hobbies or braces." You can overdo many things. I am often for the big hint myself, but that was probably a bit far-fetched.

It's always the same when the OP responds sporadically or even takes off, the threads become independent. Which is also okay.

The topic of property & children or consumption is always evaluated differently. I always find it suspicious when someone was consumption-hungry and then builds, has children, and wants to reduce it to zero. That hardly works.

Back then, with one child, we faced the decision between a condominium or a detached house. In hindsight, I do not regret that we chose the condominium, have a second child, and do not restrict ourselves at all!

You have to consider that children have hobbies, sometimes changing ones because they feel like it. Care and food at school cost money, etc.

I don’t go to Aldi and buy the €15 football shoes there; my children get ones from the specialty sports store that are tried on and then just cost €60.

This is not meant to be disrespectful, but I find it macabre that many people build houses and buy clothes at KIK because they lack money.

Smaller is sometimes finer!
