Well, unfortunately it’s not that simple for us. We’ve tried everything, including a thermal imaging camera. Even at full blast, sauna-like temperatures, the ceiling just heats up completely. Individual wires cannot be seen, but definitely run near the electrical connections... Our neighbors haven’t changed the lamps since moving in. One who tried hit a wire and had to chisel open and weld (iron pipes)...

Our system was probably not built optimally. But for the thread starter, it’s supposed to be about something else: If it’s planned accordingly (leaving the lamp connections and the areas near the window free) and properly documented photographically, it should be no problem...

First of all, thank you very much for the quick responses, I did not expect that this afternoon. Why am I asking for advice? - A friend is building a new house and is fully relying on this type of heating. His precast concrete ceilings have already been delivered completely with the system, the remaining areas he installed himself with manageable effort. He described to me very well the advantages of this type of heating, the only disadvantage - the house is still under construction. That’s why I am seeking advice here. The installation problems described above should be solvable with good preparation. You wrote that it works; can someone here who generates heat with a heat pump comment again - regarding effort and maintenance costs?

There are some threads about heat pumps in the Haustechnik and Heizung subforum. Finding the right provider and the correct sizing is a science in itself. And especially on the topic of maintenance, opinions tend to differ a bit...

Since I don't walk on the ceiling, I like the warmth from below.

It's quite interesting that ceiling heating systems are so rarely used in private residential construction. Especially during renovations, it's actually worth considering if the floor cannot be completely redone for various reasons and free wall space is scarce... There are quite a few providers in the field of ceiling heating systems nowadays. Probably very popular also in combination with clay plaster or similar.

Has anyone else had experience with that?

I’m bringing the thread back up, no idea if the original poster is still interested. I am currently also dealing with a ceiling heating system in combination with a heat pump.

The heating works through radiant heat, not convection, so the idea that “warm air rises” is only partly true. You can feel a big campfire in winter even with icy wind and some distance.
In tall sports halls, heating is often done exclusively with ceiling radiant panels without any problems.

Disadvantage compared to underfloor heating:
less coziness when playing on the floor with children, for example

Advantage:
no adjustments needed due to changed floor construction at doorways or staircases (even if there is underfloor heating upstairs)

Are there any other important points?
How does a ceiling heating system differ in price from an underfloor heating system?
