More of an increased need for security. Of course, an RC3 door only makes sense if the windows on the ground floor are also RC3. Or are the prices for the RC3 windows just overwhelming me? Today we started with the selection of the front door (instead of the windows).

did someone from Kompotherm come to your construction site and install the door for 400,- or did you probably order more through a dealer? What RC classification did your door have or did Kompotherm not provide any information about it at all?

I find Rc3 exaggerated anyway. Even in the window. Those who want to get in will manage it. In that case, better a safe for the really important things. And as already said, if anything, they will get in through the windows.

Yes, RC3 is becoming expensive everywhere. Actually, RC2n or RC2 is more than enough. You can always get in. You just have to be a tougher target than the neighbor. More deterrence comes from light (motion detectors), visibility; cameras, dog (no matter what size), etc. The feeling of security is individual. But a front door in RC3 will probably not bring you peace. Better develop a concept with motion detectors and lights around the house. Possibly also cameras with person recognition.

RC3 can make sense. But not for a standard house and when money is tight. I don’t know the financial situation and the property of the OP, so please don’t take this as an accusation.

Regarding the insulation value of the door, I actually have a question. During the planning phase of our house, I dealt intensively with the insulation of the building envelope. For understanding, if it had been up to me, I would have preferred to build a passive house because I simply find it sexy. But gradually I realized that the additional costs hardly pay off. Unless money doesn’t matter. To come back to the door. Isn’t it similar there? The differences in the insulation values of the doors are not that huge now. And we are talking about a relatively "small" hole in the envelope compared to the rest of the building. According to the insights I have gained so far, a highly insulated door only really makes sense if the entire rest is right as well. That means highly insulated masonry, windows, rafter insulation above and below, etc. pp and so on and so forth. If all that is not given, a highly insulated door doesn’t really bring me anything except holes in my wallet, does it?

A team from the seller installed it. I can't tell you what kind of RC class it is because we didn't pay attention to that. In general, aluminum with multiple locking points should be roughly in the "similar to RC2" range without having to book it separately. And yes, the surcharge will hit you hard on the window.

Since then, I have been advocating carefully considering where to use fixed glazing on the ground floor, and otherwise see
If in the end a "stupid" window falls short and you feel better with that, you can specifically book extra burglary protection for that window, but just ordering all windows as RC3 will probably result in at least doubling the price.

It really doesn't matter regarding the area of the door, but may be relevant for subsidies if minimum values are specified there. In an old building, a highly insulated, tight door could even be disadvantageous.
