Hello everyone,

after being a silent observer here for a long time, things are now getting serious for us with the expansion of an existing property. It is to be extended by a loft conversion.

We have made initial thoughts about our new home, and we will directly upload first drafts and are looking forward to your opinions and suggestions for improvement.

We (31 + 33) are planning the attic apartment for two adults and one child.

For our wishes regarding the expansion, we have imagined the following:

Ground floor:
- Entrance area with staircase

Upper floor:
- Guest bathroom
- Utility room

Attic:
- Bedroom
- Children's room
- Bathroom
- Storage room
- Spacious living + dining + kitchen area (if possible with a fireplace)
- Terrace

Looking forward to criticism, opinions, and suggestions for improvement.

Best regards, Nordre

Hello Nordre,

Perhaps you should say a few words about what remains and what is new... besides, there are 2 apartments on the upper floor and attic... and that only for a 3-person family?
And why are the staircases marked in red?

Regards Yvonne

I think it is only about the DG apartment with the associated staircase (the parts marked in red).

Hello Yvonne,

Thank you for your comment.

Regarding the details: The existing building consists of the ground floor and the upper floor. One room on the ground floor is used as an entrance area or stairwell. Furthermore, two rooms from the upper floor are used for a guest bathroom + utility room as well as a stairwell.

I have marked the plans in red where structural changes are to be made.

The attic is planned as a full floor. After the conversion, a fully functional apartment for my wife, my child, and me should be created. The existing apartment is to continue being occupied by my parents-in-law.

I hope it has become a little clearer. :)

Looking forward to opinions and suggestions

How are you realizing the whole thing?! I also have something similar planned for my parents' house, plus an extension. Are you completely outsourcing to a construction company? Or are you doing a lot yourselves? Do you already have a concept for how to protect the lower floors against moisture/rain during the renovation?
