That is a matter of taste. I can tell you what will happen with the neighbors: they will practically keep the windows and doors permanently closed because no one wants to sit on a display plate. Not in winter, because the light is on inside, and in summer it’s too hot anyway. This trend with large window fronts is exactly that: a trend. That’s my opinion ;). Friends of ours also have huge windows everywhere, and now they are permanently covered with curtains and blinds because there is too much exposure from outside and too much heat in summer.

Yes, I've also never heard of anyone doing that, probably because it's really too complicated. Especially if you live in it.

They'll probably add a conservatory or something like that.

Yes, that was exactly our idea too.
I really don't like being watched.
Whether it's a trend would be interesting to find out.
If there were undeveloped open nature behind me or I had a huge property, then I would really like it. But not when you can be looked into from every side.

The consideration now was only that in 10 years the hedge to the street might be dense enough that you could maybe reconsider.
But it sounds like a winter garden would make more sense than throwing a five-figure amount just for a few more windows.

Of course, for example if you live by a lake, you naturally make a window front facing the lake. But in normal life, where houses stand house to house... well, for me that wouldn’t be anything.

Hi,

low thresholds also work easily with normal hinged doors. We have no more than a 15-20 mm door threshold. However, this comes at the cost of additional effort for draining the terrace; otherwise, during heavy rain, water will be pushed through the doors into the house.

Regarding your considerations about more window area:
Large window fronts practically require external venetian blinds on the ground floor and automatic roller shutters. Without them, you're dead.
In my avatar, you can see the south side of our house; from about plus 5 degrees outside temperature, the sunlight is enough for heating. If it's over 10 degrees outside, on a sunny day it already gets too warm without shading.

Best regards,

Andreas

Just plant a tall hedge right away;)

I don’t think the thing with big windows is about fashion or not, it’s simply a matter of lifestyle and sensitivities. We will build with large windows, will have a big sliding door. And I know they will often be open when the weather allows. For us, it can never be warm enough in the house.

And in Germany, it rarely gets too hot. Most of the time we will be glad to finally have enough light in the house and the sun contributing to heating the house through the windows.
