Hey,

I hope I'm not completely off-topic here. I just followed the "Energie" tag ;)
At the moment, my partner and I are renovating a property and we're considering placing special emphasis on energy efficiency, etc. Since we want to do a lot ourselves, we're looking for suitable information, whether literature or anything else.

My two questions to you now: I found a technical energy book. I would be interested to know if anyone has read something like that before and can recommend it. And of course secondly, what you would recommend to get properly informed.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards
Franka

The named "energy specialist book" does not seem suitable to me for the topic of a very specific renovation. I would rather recommend construction specialist books, which, however, focus heavily on building construction/building physics/building services engineering.

Energy renovation is a complex topic between the legal requirements of the Energy Saving Ordinance, the incentive programs of KFW and BAFA, the specifications of building law, and last but not least the building fabric of the existing building. An energy renovation always considers the overall concept of building insulation, building heating and, if applicable, ventilation. These components must be coordinated with each other. If you want to implement a KfW-funded measure, this always includes an energy consultation of the building, in which the existing building is recorded in a complex calculation program and the various renovation variants are played through to reach a defined energy result.

The existing building should not be underestimated; its fabric should be recorded and assessed as detailed as possible in a building survey to avoid surprises during later conversion work. Construction damages—mostly moisture damage—must also be recorded and remedied in this phase, as only dry components can be insulated.

As a rule, the building survey also provides sufficient opportunity to coordinate your renovation and usage ideas with the conditions of the existing building. If you want to carry out a large part of the renovation work yourself, it should be professionally pre-planned. Last but not least, the building survey and renovation planning determine a financial framework that you can adapt to your possibilities.

I recommend working with a specialist planner from the start, preferably an architect experienced with old buildings. If you want to use the KfW programs, you may find suitable consultants in the dena list of "Energie-Effizienz-Experten".
