Energy cost-free house by Octopus Energy and Roth Massivhaus?

Have you heard about the project Octopus Energy and Roth Massivhaus? They apparently built a house that operates completely without energy costs. The house was equipped with a sophisticated combination of photovoltaic systems, energy storage solutions, and a highly efficient heat pump. This is intended not only to cover the house's own energy needs but even to supply energy to the grid.

Has anyone of you ever heard of this or dealt with such concepts? Do you think that such energy cost-free houses could be the future of living? I find the idea fascinating but am not sure how practical it could be on a large scale.

Who pays for the standard of the house? The photovoltaic system? The large storage?
How does Octopus Energy make money? Do they take the surplus electricity produced in the summer for free and give it back for free?

No. There is no free energy. Someone always pays somewhere and someone earns money from it.

Hmm, so we actually also have energy cost-free. "Completely normal" kfw40+ with 12kwp. 50€ electricity costs, 50€ feed-in tariff. So +-0 regarding energy costs.

Doesn't sound like a huge expenditure at all. I have KFW55 from the completely normal local general contractor. Thanks to photovoltaics, storage, and heat pump, for example today I didn't have to buy any energy.
