Electricity meter for air-water heat pump, normal electricity, and photovoltaics?

Hi everyone,

probably a silly question, but I haven't understood the topic of meters for air-to-water heat pumps and photovoltaics yet, and Google doesn't give me any results that I understand 100%. I always read something about feed-in meters, yield meters, two-way meters, etc. but have no idea what I really need now.

Situation: new building, being built with an air-to-water heat pump and a photovoltaic system.

What kind of meter do I need now? Is one enough for everything? I also keep reading that a separate meter is needed for the air-to-water heat pump because the electricity tariffs are sometimes cheaper. That would argue against the "one meter for everything" model.

What is true now?

Thanks and best regards!

Research what a normal and a heat pump tariff cost for you. Then you can decide what makes sense and what does not.

But don't forget to include the additional costs for the second meter and also for the switching, so that you can operate the heat pump with the electricity from the photovoltaic system. We are also currently building new. We have a ground source heat pump with trench collectors and a 13.26 kWp photovoltaic system. I will only use one meter.

Correct, a meter (two-way meter) should also be sufficient for you. Normally, your electrician installs it right away during the new house construction. At least, that's how it was for us. Then you use the electricity generated by the photovoltaic system directly for your air-to-water heat pump. To make it run optimally, you have to experiment a bit.

So, first of all, thanks for your answers. So a comparison of the current tariffs at my future place of residence of the new building says:

35 cents for heat pump electricity
38 cents for household electricity

--> Therefore, from my point of view, it makes no sense at all to have the separate meter and tariff. And I have now repeatedly read that the photovoltaic system can only serve either/or - either one meter or the other. Whereas your post, Neubau2022, sounds as if it might be possible? Well, anyway, I’m leaving it out - I think I’ll be better off that way... :)

Decisive in this is also the performance of the photovoltaics.
