However, one must also look closely at what is allowed regarding rainwater into the sewage system or only infiltration on one's own property, etc.

That's why I would now focus on completely different matters. This problem arises automatically and will then be handled when the time comes.

With us, a drainage plan must be created and submitted to the municipality. The architect also does this, and she was able to answer all these questions, including rainwater drainage into the cistern, size of the cistern, gutters around the house, wastewater drainage into the sewer, etc.

It depends a lot on the nature of the ground. For example, we have very rocky and clayey soil, and there the water partly flows horizontally and presses against the basement wall. Are you building the basement as a [weiße Wanne]?

Regarding the garden: here too it depends on how permeable the soil is. If the soil is normal, you actually don't need drainage. However, the soil will be compacted anyway by the construction work. If the soil is normally composed, it should at least be loosened with a rotary tiller. Ideally, compost is also worked in.

If the soil is very rocky/clayey, drainage does make sense. We have a drainage pipe every five meters under the lawn. At the end of the garden, the pipes come together. The drainage flows into a stream behind the garden.

We also have clayey, rocky soil, but we decided against drainage and for a white tank. Reasons: less maintenance work and more reliable protection. Mixing some sand into the top layer helps against puddles in the garden. Basically reducing the clay content on the surface with sand. For example, we are not allowed to drain our property elsewhere.

Good morning,

I would also like to share my experience on the topic. A drainage system around the house, as you describe it, is definitely sensible and often the first step to protect the building from water accumulation and moisture. This so-called "ring drainage" helps keep water away from the foundation, which is especially important with damp or clay soils.

As for the garden, it largely depends on the soil conditions and the gradient. If, for example, you have a heavy, poorly permeable soil, it might make sense to install additional drainage pipes in the garden. It does not necessarily have to be serpentine, but you could place drains specifically where water might pool, such as in depressions or areas that remain particularly wet. A professional can perform a soil analysis here and recommend targeted measures if necessary, instead of running pipes throughout the entire garden.
