The party producing the defect is liable for it.

so first of all, thank you for your answers, that already calmed me down a bit before today's conversation with the architect. so here is the situation: the window construction company admitted the mistake and made me 2 proposals. either leave it as is and get half of the costs waived (the architect says his gut feeling tells him that if you negotiate properly, they would waive (almost) everything) or they replace it completely, remodeling really isn’t possible. then they would also have to pay the additional costs that would still be incurred for the other trades, the screed can’t be filled up to the sliding door now, the parquet layer has to come again, etc. of course, the company would like to leave the door in as it is now, I don’t want that. I communicated that now. luckily the company doesn’t seem to be stubborn about it, that reassures me a lot. the delay will now be about 4 weeks.

Is there anything else to consider? ... REPLACE ... you want to live in the house for more than 6 months.

When manufacturing in Germany, it works as I described. When distributing in Germany and manufacturing abroad, for logistical reasons you would rather rebuild the entire sliding door. But either way, it's their problem.

Nothing more to add to that. After all, you don't plan your house in detail just for fun.

Yes, as I said, you are all right. My brief uncertainty is over. The part will be replaced.

That's right, replace it and that's it. But already positive that the window installer behaves the way he does. That he asks if it could also stay like this, I find okay. There are actually building owners who aren't like that.

You refuse it, which I would do too, he accepts it and hopefully books it under learning costs and draws his conclusions regarding diligence and work processes.

Every mistake is also an opportunity to learn... in this case for the window installer.

Have fun and continued success!
