Do you need a base for the washing machine?

Hello. We are currently considering whether a pedestal is even necessary for a washing machine. In our case, a washing machine cabinet with a sliding door will be built using drywall construction. The dryer is supposed to be placed on top of the washing machine. Everywhere you see such pedestals on which the washing machine stands. We could only have a 20 cm high pedestal made anyway, because otherwise the dryer would be positioned too high. Now my wife said that a laundry basket can also be placed in front of the washing machine even with the door open. I have always believed that the washing machine door cannot be opened if a laundry basket is standing in front of it. I had to be corrected on that. What else are such low pedestals built for if, from our point of view, they are not even needed?

The devices are raised to protect the back during operation...

Does that even make sense for us? A position 20cm higher doesn’t really help much, I would think. If you build the base 50cm high, then certainly. Is there maybe someone here with practical experience with a washing machine that stands directly on the floor?

When you have back pain yourself, you recognize the sense. The same applies to the oven in the kitchen, etc.

20 cm is not much, but it can make a decisive difference. Just stand in front of the washing machine and imagine it being 20 cm higher.

We currently have the washing machine on the floor and the dryer on top of it. Emptying the washing machine has become quite tedious by now. Therefore, both will stand next to each other on a pedestal in the house. Oh yes, regarding your other question, a basket fits under the door regardless. Although it might also depend on the basket.
