Hello everyone,

we have conducted the measurement appointment with the window installer on our shell construction. We need to decide where the windows are best installed. We are building without box-type roller shutters - our house is naturally shaded anyway by the many trees. Since we have ceiling-height lintels on the ground floor and upper floor, we prefer to use the space up to the ceiling for window area. However, we want to keep the option open to retrofit shading with external roller shutters in the reveal or, if necessary, on the facade.

Currently, we plan to install the windows as shown in the sketch attached. Do you see any reason against this?

Thank you very much for your opinions

... upload the drawing here, preferably as an image. External image links are highly unpopular.

I would match the visual lintel height of the windows to that.

Hehe. Currently, the lintels are designed so that all lintels are flush with the ceiling. That also applies to the two large terrace doors. If we follow the recommendation from 11ant, we would have both the windows and the terrace doors extend up to the ceiling to keep everything uniform.

The questions we are currently asking ourselves are:

- With the higher windows/terrace doors, more light is let in - which is good. On the other hand, we are not sure whether the lack of a classic lintel above the windows (which would have been realized in our case above the cassette box) is visually problematic (as seen from the inside).

- Where is the best position for the window in the reveal (keyword thermal bridges, etc.)

To avoid thermal bridges, it should be located in the insulation layer or directly inside it. For monolithic constructions without an insulation layer, it should be centered with the interior side. So it is basically correctly shown in your drawing.

However, the additional insulation of the window frame at the lintel is missing. This should be extended 3-5 cm from above over the frame on the outside, if no roller shutter box is present, so that the window abuts the insulation from the inside.

I don’t understand why a roller shutter box should be installed in the window’s field of view.
