Hello everyone, where exactly is the difference between these two variants? Is the same thing meant by them? Regards

Hello "Hendrik007". Your question can be answered as follows: The term "Designboden" is not concretely defined anywhere. It is a generic term in the flooring industry, comparable in construction to the term "building" or "vehicle" in vehicle technology. A "Designboden" can be understood as a decorative screed as well as an individual coating made of reactive resins, a textile surface made of multicolored carpet tiles, and so on. Vinyl, on the other hand, is rather a meaningless abbreviation, as well as a general term for all kinds of PVC floor coverings in roll goods, tiles, or planks. A Designboden CAN therefore be a PVC floor covering in plank form, but does not have to be (as there are other flooring alternatives). I hope I was able to give you a sufficient and satisfactory answer: KlaRa

Hello "KlaRa", thank you first of all. However, I am not much wiser. The term "design floor" is of course complete nonsense, but unfortunately quite common in flooring marketing. My question was whether there is more behind the vinyl-like design floor than just normal vinyl flooring. What about, for example, the Neo2 from Classen, which often falls into this category?

As a rule, it is the same.

I’m afraid not. Ultimately, products have to be specifically compared/evaluated.

This floor is said to be PVC-free, so not a vinyl floor (vinyl short for polyvinyl chloride, PVC). Presumably, the decorative and top layers are then PP or PET; a quick search didn’t find the material for Classen. The carrier material is a mineral in a polyolefin matrix (Ceramin(R)).

To the initial question: A design floor can be a vinyl floor, but doesn’t have to be. A vinyl floor can be a design floor, but can also be called anything else (our ancestors probably didn’t refer to the PVC sheet flooring from the roll as design flooring ...).

Once again to "Hendrik007": I pointed out that the term "Designboden" is a generic term. Whether one accepts that or not does not change the fact. Therefore, there can be no differences in the variants (to address your original question), as the terms do not allow for any comparison. Another example: "Wheels and rubber compound" (instead of Designboden and vinyl). No comparison can be made between those terms! You currently ask: "My question was whether there is more behind the vinyl-like Designboden than just ordinary vinyl flooring." There is no such thing as vinyl-like – it’s either PVC or not PVC. The "NEO2" is a polyolefin covering enriched with mineral filler – and thus not a PVC floor. That has existed for 15 years! Back to the actual topic: A "Designboden" is understood in elastic flooring as plank-shaped covering strips with an aesthetically pleasing decor. The decor is mostly supplied in wood look, but also in stone look. The term "Designboden" was of course born from a marketing idea. Originally, it referred to Skor (Sekors?) filler compounds; about 10 years ago it shifted towards elastic coverings. Designbodens are often also called unique floors. Another meaningless generic term, but one that markets well... ----------------------------- Regards: KlaRa
