Delays with the general contractor, no deadline set according to § 650 Building Code

If you have not received a cancellation policy, you can cancel the consumer construction contract without any further justification according to § 650l of the Building Code. New as of January 1, 2018, is that the cancellation period according to § 356e of the Building Code only begins to run when the contractor has duly and properly informed the consumer about their right of withdrawal.

Exactly like that. This does not make the contract completely invalid, but very easily ineffective.

And a revocation actually means that the services rendered are to be set to zero.

With goods, it would be like that. But even there, if the goods have been used so extensively that they can no longer be considered new, you would have to accept a reduction of the refund amount, up to no refund at all (e.g. used consumables, hygiene products, custom-made items). (faultless) Services rendered that cannot be reversed must also be paid for. So you cannot simply pay nothing to a painter whom you hired to paint your house and who has done proper work in the living room just because of the cancellation. You must at least pay him for the living room.
