With tax declaration class 3 + family allowance, how high would your net income be then? There is a wedding coming up, right?! So it surely starts with a 4

And your wife's net income would decrease considerably. This only makes a significant difference if your wife no longer works at all.

His wife loses about 350 euros net. I would assume that as a married civil servant with a family allowance, he more than compensates for that. Hence the question to the original poster and his salary in tax class 3.

Tax declaration class 3 and status "married" leads to about 4500 € net for me.

Well, in addition to rent there are electricity, telephone, cable connection and of course the usual living expenses. Our savings rate is certainly a bit higher, but part of it goes into our retirement provision, disability insurance, and after all, we also drive two cars. In addition, several hundred euros flow into various asset portfolios and daily allowance accounts, which however do not remain as a real surplus "net".

So quickly turn 5500 into 6100 net. Set the installment to 1500 during family planning, you can easily manage that on your own. When your wife is working full-time again, I still don't see it becoming tight even at 2500.
