Hello Foristi,

I have an open kitchen with a direct, open connection to the hallway, dining room, and living room. There is supposed to be a fireplace there as well, and the chimney sweep actually wants to oblige me to install window ventilators (but is open to alternatives). Since it then happily always feels cold on the back of my neck when the fireplace is burning, I don’t find these window ventilators very desirable. Due to the position of the fireplace and the old building, a room-air-independent air supply is very difficult. Therefore, I have considered installing a decentralized ventilation system in the kitchen by drilling through the wall, which would also allow me to vent the odors produced in the kitchen outside. My idea is that I could, depending on need, also at the push of a button or with the help of a 4 Pascal switch, ensure that when the fireplace is burning, air is pushed from outside to inside. This would solve three problems at once:
- Ventilation of the old building
- Removal of bad air from the kitchen
- Supply air for the fireplace

For all this to work, however, the device would have to be controllable almost arbitrarily. It would also be ideal if the fan could be closed at the push of a button (it would be installed in the kitchen above the cabinets, where it is difficult for me to reach) and, of course, if it were very quiet and as efficient as possible with regard to the heat exchanger at cold temperatures (an old building is already an energy nightmare, so I want to keep the necessary cold bridges as minimal as possible).

Unfortunately, in Hannover there are hardly any ventilation installers who can really provide me with information about decentralized ventilation systems. Therefore, I hope you can recommend a system that meets my requirements.

Regards
Constantin

A "normal" decentralized fan will be of little use to you here. In these, the direction of flow is switched, i.e., it first pulls air out, then blows some back in.

What you need would be a "reversed" exhaust device. However, no removal of odors takes place then, since air is only blown in. There is also no energy recovery.

In addition, ventilation systems and chimneys are usually only allowed with a pressure monitor or as a room air-independent chimney. So you must first obtain the YES from your chimney sweep.

Hello Markus,

thanks for the answer. I had hoped that there are fans that can still be switched accordingly. Basically the jack of all trades. The 4 Pascal switch is exactly the fuse you mentioned. When I have that thing, the chimney sweep will give his OK. The thing may then also cost more than 300 EUR.

Best regards
Constantin

Hello Constantin, there are decentralized fans that simultaneously draw in supply air and exhaust air or expel it outside. And there are ones that you can set to "supply air only" or turn off completely, if you want. Best regards

Can you name a system that can do that? Ideally one that can be connected with a corresponding switch/sensor.

There are such fans from Inventer. Our neighbor has them.
