Hello everyone,
We bought a two-family house built in ’64 almost 3 years ago.
One apartment with 95 sqm is occupied by us. However, in the long run, it would be a bit tight since we have two children and we lack a room. We live in the upper apartment.
Now I had the following idea. To build an extension at the back. Namely two rooms on top of each other, each with 20 sqm.
The upper room would be connected to the upper apartment through a door. The lower room stands alone and only gets a door from outside. Here my wife could set up her studio. This way we would gain two rooms in our apartment, which would be really ideal.
The house is built of bricks. I could imagine constructing the extension as a timber frame construction. Then directly connect it to the house and place it on a newly concreted base slab.
Could that work like this? The roof would simply have to be extended accordingly further to the back.
Where would one have to inquire to get approval for such an extension? I suppose at the building authority in the city, right?
I would install the electricity and heating myself, I could branch off from the existing rooms next door or lead the power from top to bottom into the lower room.
I hope this is not written too confusingly and it’s somewhat clear what I mean ^^
Regards
