The last word has not yet been spoken....[emoji6]
I am well aware that the running costs are high.

How should the operating costs be assessed?

Not my area of expertise, and hard to predict (development of water, wastewater, and energy costs). The sun as a water heater is overrated, the hours of use suffer from that. The pool floor may possibly be below sewer level – water changes require a pump, which also needs maintenance. Half a dozen little pumps for inflatable pools run hot before a large pool is emptied. Water quality does not maintain itself. And Ludmilla doesn’t just clean the thing quickly after vacuuming. Among the people who don’t use their pools, there are quite a few chief physicians and senior public prosecutors. Not because they don’t think the running costs are worth it, but because they remain noticeable even with high salaries. Still, "not everyone gets it" who believes that as dual earners, the skilled worker can handle that easypeasy, since you don’t fly to Mallorca, then it fits. I’d say, that’s going to be an expensive dance floor for the barbecue party.

When I read it like this, I prefer to distance myself from the brief thought.

One can also look at the whole thing a bit more objectively and in a more differentiated way.

Nowadays, the water hardly needs to be changed at all, provided regular maintenance is done. At most, when after about 10 years the pool liner needs to be replaced.
The sun is at least enough for my parents-in-law to use their 8x4 pool from May to September, water temperature as mentioned about 24 degrees thanks to the solar absorber.
By the way, their liner is 11 years old and still flawless.
The costs can very roughly be estimated at 1.50 per day. Just skip a short vacation once and we have at least covered the costs and are sitting at this very pool during that time...

To each their own, no question about it.
We will definitely use the pool regularly and are used to doing so so far.
