Craftsman invoice for replacement of defective tool

I couldn’t find anything suitable using the search function. I have a question about a craftsman’s invoice.

My brother had a pipe burst in an external water pipe. The excavator then examined the water pipe with a camera.
During this, the camera (please don’t ask me how this happened) apparently got lost in the pipe.

Now the excavator has invoiced my brother 180.00 EUR plus VAT for the replacement of the camera lost in the pipe.

Does he really have to pay this? From my point of view, this is the craftsman’s risk, isn’t it?

Is there maybe even any case law on this?

Your brother rather has a "damage" if there is a camera lying in the pipe. If this liability were the case, then theoretically I would also have to pay for the Boeing if it breaks during the flight or the medical MRI device, etc. I would be very surprised if this claim were justified; it seems very strange to me, but maybe someone has experienced something similar and knows more.

That is downright cheeky, I definitely wouldn’t pay. To continue the comparisons: If the excavator breaks down in the construction pit, does the customer also pay for the new excavator?

There are insurances for that. If the civil engineer doesn’t have any, it means bad luck for him here.
