He should just come with another camera and use it to look for the old camera? He lost it himself anyway. If it wasn't in the replaced part, it must still be somewhere.

Just stop it, how is a drain supposed to work if after the next mishap there are already several cameras lying around in the pipe? This time maybe even a DSLR with a huge telephoto lens, carrying strap, battery bag, etc. It can quickly get full in such a pipe.

If the gentleman craftsman loses the thing and wants it back, he has to take care of it himself. Or write it off as a loss. Charging the customer for one's own stupidity is not uncommon among craftsmen, but in this case, it is particularly audacious.
