Hello,

I am currently surveying the offers from several house construction companies regarding the electrical installation. Prices are listed for the following components:

    [*]per socket (including connection) €40
[*]per Cat6 double socket with connection to patch panel €145

Are these realistic prices and can someone please explain to me where this huge price difference comes from? For each socket, the wall must only be chased, right? The material costs can’t differ that extremely, can they?

The price difference probably comes from the fact that connecting the wires of a CAT6 socket is significantly more complex than the 3 wires of a normal outlet. And then it is also a double socket, so you have to connect 2x8 wires in the correct order, which takes time and must be checked afterward. And the 16 wires on the other side also have to be connected in the patch panel. A network socket is definitely somewhat more expensive than an outlet and the cable is probably installed in a conduit. Are the cables included in the price as well? Because a CAT6 network cable is also significantly more expensive than a normal power cable and has to be run from each individual socket to the patch panel (so it is longer and also doubled here), whereas with normal cabling (no KNX or similar) for outlets you don’t need a star topology but can daisy chain. So there are various reasons for the price difference. Whether the prices are market-appropriate, I don’t know. I’m doing it myself (not a new building).

I agree with FrankH on that!

BUT: Make sure that the network double socket is also doubly occupied. We also have double sockets everywhere, but they are only singly occupied, so only one connection is usable. That is totally rubbish.

Unfortunately, I noticed it way too late... :-(

So at the beginning of this year we paid 26€ all inclusive per socket and for the double socket with cable (without patch panel connection, I did that myself, quick and easy) half of your price. In NRW. However, "only" a Gira standard series, which we liked.
