Hello everyone,

there is the thread about the company . In that thread, the low costs are repeatedly praised. On the site, you can see indicative prices of several thousand EUR, e.g. nearly 3,000 EUR for 300x400. Now I see on a well-known coupon selling site that has also been acting as a seller of all kinds of knickknacks for some time a terrace roof "Melanie" for 800 EUR.

You don't have to try to talk me out of it at all costs, since a terrace roof will be a topic for me at the earliest next year. But can you please tell me what the disadvantages are and soberly show the differences with facts that lead to such an extreme price difference?

By the way, there is also an aluminum carport for 880 EUR...

Thanks and regards

Objectively, it could be,

- inferior components
- leaking roof transitions
- no mounting material
- no rainwater drainage
- no structural calculation of the construction
- no consultation
- an additional rafter across
- T-beams as rafters
- no product description
- etc.

Inferior material (thinner) Worse powder coating Delivery only, no assembly offer No individual adaptation to the house wall Not expandable with side panels No gutter No mounting option on wall or floor, therefore no wind resistance Your Melanie has plastic panels Hardly any quality No increase in value for the house It is just a free-standing 3 x 4 meter unit.

But those are also additional services with KD, right? Yes, it says installation from 600 EUR. So with everything included, probably significantly more expensive.

At the price I found for 3x4m, it's the same with KD as well.

So yes, it will definitely be lower quality. But if I get craftsmen for the installation, so let's disregard installation for the comparison...
Is this price difference fully justified just for the material?
I mean, that's almost only 1/4 of the price....

But you have the option to have it done all in one place

Which installation? Your Melanie is freestanding. When the hurricane comes, it will break off on you.
That happened to us with a DIY store pavilion.
I’m just wondering what you want: if you want an inexpensive sunshade, then take that thing or an umbrella, whichever you like.
But others who have built a quality house want an extension that supports the quality. And they then take a frame that is durable, looks solid, and is firmly attached to the building.

Ok, but how much more is "from a single source" worth? And why?

The thing consists of aluminum and steel tubes, which a craftsperson can professionally attach to the house.

I don’t want to save money at any price. But I want to know what I would be paying several thousand euros for if I could get something for a fraction of that that also serves its purpose.

Durability is relative. How much longer does a product that costs three times as much have to last? In my opinion, three times as long is still not worth it (e.g., due to inflation).
And a solid appearance is not always a quality feature either.
I want to know if such a price difference is noticeable in everyday life.
What, for example, really is a factual difference I can read out is that the polycarbonate sheets on Melanie are 7mm vs. 16mm on KD. But what does that make practically? Do they rattle in the wind?

I don’t really know much about this either.
But if I take audio electronics, for example (which I know about), then I know that acoustically you cannot hear a difference between an 800 euro and a 3000 euro amplifier. Nevertheless, people buy a 3000 euro amplifier citing very similar reasons to the ones you mentioned above and are completely convinced that it is necessary and worthwhile (for acoustic reasons). Ultimately, however, you can’t hear a difference.

Or to take another analogy:
The question is, am I comparing a DACIA here to a BMW or to a Maserati?

Best regards and stay healthy!
