I can't emphasize this enough either: Prefabricated construction was a bit more expensive 10 years ago, but easier to build energy-efficiently. For a few years now, one must/wants to meet the former KFW55 energy efficiency standard, where prefabricated construction performs better because massive construction requires more complex insulation. Although prefabricated construction may be made of wood, I wouldn't call it panel construction. Wood construction is where you see the wood, whether log houses or clad...Now both are building in wood. A few years ago, a stone prefabricated house was still 20% more expensive than wood. How has that developed in the meantime?
