Core drilling in the house - does it create a lot of dust inside?

We have a similar case. We need a drilling through concrete, from inside to outside. Nothing with a large diameter. A LAN cable without a connector should pass through. Of course, painting has already been done and there are windows as well as a chimney nearby. The craftsman would drill through with a Hilti. Same question: is it feasible or will everything be ruined afterwards?

I just did that yesterday, a 10mm hole through reinforced concrete with a hammer drill. Definitely makes more mess because of the visible dirt, than a hole for kitchen cabinets in porous brick. I held a vacuum cleaner underneath and then had a gray spot on the wallpaper, which could be wiped off.

As long as no water is involved, it's all fine.

Edit: Larger diameters than 10mm in reinforced concrete are almost always done wet with a core drill, but for your Cat cable 8mm is probably enough?

What kind of reinforced concrete is that? With a hammer drill, I can only drill a maximum of 2cm deep into our ceiling.

Hi,

Get yourself some proper drill bits.... No, seriously, with a normal hammer drill in concrete it’s tough going, but with _good_ drill bits it’s doable. Of course, the combo "Bosch hammer plus good drill bits" is better. Then drilling into concrete is really fun!

Happy Easter!

Best regards,

Andreas
