Hello Kerstin,
I have been cooking with electricity for over 30 years and never understood or missed the gas hype. My mother still wrapped her pots in paper and put them under a blanket to keep warm; she also swears by gas. I, on the other hand, switch off at least 10 minutes before the end of the cooking time and at the same time have a warming plate if I need it. Others swear by skipping the gas flame onto the pan, I just use a long match/lighter. Of course, it’s annoying if something boils over, but that’s surely also irritating with induction. I always heat water in the kettle.
I also looked at the prices for these pots; from €200.00 upwards, it seems there’s everything; however, always for a set consisting of 5, sometimes 6 pots. If I now consider that there’s no pan, no pressure cooker, no asparagus pot, no proper braising pot etc., it quickly gets expensive. I could also throw my AMC pots/pans in the bin :( Plus the extra cost for induction ... and the constant buzzing, which we humans don’t hear but my monsters do.
My children are grown, my granddaughter is at an age where she knows what "hot" means. Enjoy your induction cooktop; I will soon finally enjoy the oven at arm height :D
Rhenish greetings
The only argument I actually find convincing is => less cleaning; I have other hobbies., but induction really offers much more comfort. If I were to get a new cooktop, I would definitely choose induction. Since then, I haven’t had boiling over pasta water or other boiling liquids anymore, because when you notice, oh .. damn, you quickly turn it down and the bubbling stops immediately. Also, I can switch instantly from frying to keeping warm and I don’t have so much residual heat at the cooking zone, etc. And, of course, the cleaning.
