Hello everyone,

I have just registered here because we are in the middle of planning a building project. We are planning a city villa with a roof overhang of 80 cm and I would like to have such spots built into the roof overhang. Now I have read that there are sometimes problems with insects here. On another page, however, I also read that lights with 3000 Kelvin do not attract insects. Does anyone here perhaps have experience with this?

Thank you very much

The circle of animals disturbed by light pollution is by no means limited to insects. If you want to illuminate your keychain at the front door, you don’t need to do that from six meters high. And if Mr. Brain wants to drop from the sky, he can do that in the dark too – just not everyone ...

I believe the circle of fans of such lighting in the forum is limited, so I don't know if you will get much constructive feedback here. Besides the mentioned light pollution, it annoys the neighbors and costs unnecessary money. I also can't understand what people find appealing about it. You'd better invest the thousands in a proper indoor lighting plan. Especially with today's construction prices. o_O

Also from me:
Don’t do it. Why?
- Light pollution
- Electricity costs
- hardly any light reaches the ground, so it’s unsuitable as pathway lighting
- you don’t see it anyway because you rarely stand a bit away from your house
- if a spotlight breaks, you have to replace it at a height of 6-7m
- in the end, you pull down the shutters because it’s too bright inside... and the neighbors stand at the door with pitchforks because they also want to sleep without shutters down sometimes...

And the most important point:
The exterior plaster has to be absolutely perfect if you do something like that. Because you shine it on directly. Here in the building area, some have such spots in the eaves overhang. That looks really forbidden when they illuminate their wavy, "cloudy" white facade all night long.

My father-in-law has halogen floodlights installed down low in his, quite wide, eaves edge. He uses them at parties to illuminate the garden side of the house. That looks good... also because his exterior plaster is really good.

would also rather advise against it. Do wall lighting around the house, where the paths and terrace are. There you can later set the lighting times with a motion detector or timer.

Every light source at night disturbs the orientation of insects. So your spots probably wouldn't make a difference. I know exactly 1 house here that has spots up there. So far, they haven't turned on these spots yet. I don't know the reasons, but probably because the outdoor area is not yet finished and therefore the visual impression is still somewhat "behind" (or not yet Social Media compliant).

I dare to hypothesize that with such spots in the neighborhood, people tend to form rather negative opinions about someone??

Before installing such lights, you should urgently clarify what the plasterer is capable of. Otherwise, your place will look like a white pineapple at night.
