Roller blinds do not have to be closed all the way down no matter how hot it is. Many rooms are corner rooms, which can have a second window on another wall. If that is not possible, you can choose exterior blinds / [Raffstores]. We never have dark caves in the south-facing rooms.

I had a window facing west and one facing north as a child. It was always relatively dark until the afternoon, especially in winter. I would, if possible, plan children's rooms with windows facing south and east or south and west. That way, in summer one can usually leave one of the windows unshaded.
