You don't buy a property spontaneously, do you??

Well, in this case the property has actually been purchased for weeks and it should have taken place much earlier. Therefore, I don't see any unnecessary fraud here. As I said, just move in as much as possible so that it counts legally as a move and that's that. Because of Corona, which was the standard excuse for all delays in 2020, I wouldn't let that much money slip away. Especially since the house has long been purchased.

I would do that - how much is that? 40,000€? - so I would also sleep in a sleeping bag on a mattress for that. Great adventure in the boring corona time. I have already heard of far more creative adventures from builders - they really still sleep in the shell without a roof so that expensive goods delivered too early are protected from theft.

So, go to the office first thing Monday and change the primary residence registration.
It might be enough if only one of you moves, then you have just separated for now, - on paper - and the other one has to live somewhere.
If they happen to be closed - which is likely due to the holidays and Corona - make an appointment online if possible and then register retroactively if needed.
If the office causes trouble, I would escalate it.
Maybe bring witnesses who can confirm that you wanted to register.
For €40,000, it’s worth the effort for me.
Regards, Olli

No, one searches for weeks, months, in some regions even years.. and then it is just before the end of the period and one is under pressure.
