Carport/Garage width - is 2.50 m enough or is that rather too narrow?

Hello everyone,

in addition to the 4-meter wide garage, we are planning a carport for the second vehicle. In total, we have 6.50 meters available for the garage and carport, but our main focus is on the garage since we have no basement and need storage space.

So we are limited in width here. Unfortunately, we can only realize a maximum width of 2.50 meters for the carport with a length of 6 meters. The carport will then be located between the garage and the house and will thus be enclosed by walls on the left and right sides.

Is 2.50 meters enough for a carport, and is it still reasonably practical to get in and out there? Or would it be better to just forget about it altogether?

Do you maybe have any other ideas?

We are not the widest people in the household, and the vehicle is a Golf 7.

Thank you very much for your help.

It also depends a bit on the car: with a Smart everything fits easily, with a pickup rather not..

Drive into a parking garage and see how well you manage in the parking spaces there. There is a parking space 2.20m, I think...

We built a double carport without a center support with a drive-through width of 5.80m. That works quite well! In my opinion, it shouldn't be much narrower...

Just calculate it!

A Golf with side mirrors is about 2.05m wide, then you leave about 10cm space on the right, resulting in about 45cm (35cm + 10cm from the mirror) of space on the driver's side until the door hits the wall. Can you drive straight in or do you have to angle in a bit? For me, that's too little!

So why not make the garage 6.5m wide for 2 cars right away. With overlapping spaces for opening doors, everything is much easier. Sure, it costs more. But the utility value is also considerably greater.

We cannot build wider because of the heat pump and the ventilation system. We have a total width of 6.50 meters available for the garage and carport. We would like the garage to be 4 meters wide for 1 car and storage. That leaves 2.50 meters for the carport.

Where is the storage space planned? Next to the car? With a garage width of 4m, only 3.5-3.6m remains inside. Not much fits there if you want to get into the car normally.

Just upload a floor plan, then it will be easier for us to understand.
