Hi, I found this wonderful forum through the search engine. I have a concern and want to cover my old tiles in my bathroom with new tiles. Is it that simple, and if so, what do I need to consider? Thank you very much for your information.

Hello Regina,

I would chisel out and sand down the old tiles. Then level the floor and lay new tiles. Everything else is rubbish. This way you get a new and even floor.
Best regards

Hi,
I see it exactly the same way. Better to do the work properly than to deliver a botch. If it’s not done right, then there is double the work.

Hi,
My father also tried that once, but he failed. It's not just that the tiles are covered, because there are additional tasks. Like sanding down the doors at the bottom, the fittings no longer matched, and so on. So the old tiles had to come out and new ones be laid.
Best regards

I don’t think Regina’s idea is bad at all. It’s simply cheaper than removing the old tiles, leveling everything, and retiling. It’s all a matter of price, and first it must be considered how much money is available.

Best regards

Hello,

So I have been able to gain experience with this myself. Some time ago, I did this in my mother’s rental apartment. I laid tiles on top of tiles. But the first tiles were still intact and exceptionally stable. My mother and I are satisfied with the result.
