Rather unrealistic or will involve a lot of sacrifice

If you have, as you say, read up here, then you will - as I have also found during my time here - have realized that the question of "Why?" in the case of granny flats is simply always incredibly justified. Perhaps you could say something about that, it would at least help to better assess the overall construction. Since you are planning "only" 120 sqm for yourselves, it is already interesting, with that alone, i.e., without the granny flat, you would actually stay within your budget...

First of all, thank you for all the honest answers. We are considering how to proceed. More salary or a different job is at the top of the to-do list, at least for my partner. Otherwise, we will probably wait and see what time brings. @Matthew, we have always had the desire to take my parents into a house with us. It has advantages for us (childcare, dog sitter) and for my parents later on when they get older. As I said, it is simply a big wish. Of course, that would also be possible if we lived in the same town.

Yes, of course parents are allowed to take everything nicely.

Um, what? I don’t think you are in a position to judge me. Sometimes it’s better not to write anything at all.

No, I do read it correctly. Parents should co-finance and support in life, otherwise the financing completely collapses. I’m not a fan of always and everywhere involving parents. But it has become fashionable and taken for granted by now.
