Hello dear house construction experts.
Greetings to all members!!
My name is Jürgen, I come from BW and I am planning to build a larger garage soon, and I would be very happy about some tips in this forum.
It is a larger garage where I want to accommodate 3 cars and at least 2-3 motorcycles.
There should be no supports or walls inside the garage.
Roof pitch between 15-30 degrees.
I have been looking around for a while, but I am not really sure yet.
Ideally, I would like a concrete slab with foundation, possibly with wooden walls, which I want to clad on the outside with waterproof panels, then plaster, and a rafter-purlin construction with concrete tiles, because I believe that such a garage has a better climate and is generally not so "damp."
Option 1 :: Regarding the dimensions, I thought about 9x9 meters, so 3 cars side by side and some space behind.
Possibly 1 small and 1 large sectional door.
However, this option will probably be a bit too expensive, since you would need very thick glued laminated beams for this span.
Option 2 :: Alternatively, my idea is to make the garage only 7 meters wide and 11-12 meters long, so 2 cars side by side and 2 car spaces behind. This will probably be possible with a wooden roof construction.
Option 3 :: Precast concrete walls with wooden beam roof.
Everything is planned as a DIY job, since one friend is a carpenter and the other a mason, and I am a craftsman myself.
Do you have experience with a garage of these dimensions, or what would you recommend?
Is an architect enough for this size or is a structural engineer always needed?
Thank you in advance, regards Jürgen
