Yes. Although the whining and gnashing of teeth is a bit annoying, to be honest.
For a decade, business was booming, really exceptionally good, and everyone knew it couldn’t go on like that forever.

It’s not as if other industries haven’t had crises in recent years.
Things are slowly getting better, but we still have delivery times of several months for many of our components, which before Corona used to be delivered overnight or the next day.

In 2022 and much of 2023, I worked off overtime, kept afloat with minor tasks, and was able to take parental leave. Convenient when you’re building a house yourself with a bit of your own work. Other colleagues sat at home on short-time work, fixed-term contracts were not extended, etc.

The construction industry is now entering 1 or 2 years of really rough waters, that’s true. But it has to get through it; the tools are there.
And the craftsmen can now finally chip away at their backlog that they have been pushing forward.
You still wait 2 or 3 weeks for a plumber unless water is literally shooting out of the wall.
And I’ve already been waiting for 3 weeks for an offer from the ground worker for a cistern waterproofing. It can’t be that bad yet if he doesn’t have to bother with small stuff like that.

PS:
It’s simply normal not to run at 110% capacity all year round. Unfortunately, that was forgotten because business was booming for years.

Is there anything new to report here? It is already December now.

Hello everyone, please excuse the radio silence. The contract with the developer was recently terminated. The offer was fine, but we did not get rich from it. Interest rates have risen sharply in the meantime. Thank you for your support.

How will things proceed for you now? The dream surely isn’t off the table, right?

I am quite sure that we will buy a house at some point. However, this specific project was just a pragmatic solution for us; a dream house looks different for us. Therefore, I am happy for now that we have a clean slate.

Besides the delays, there have also been professional changes for us. So, we are waiting and focusing on other things for now until we feel like dealing with the house topic again.

I can understand that well. We ourselves were often (very often) on the verge of pulling the plug and I sometimes regretted starting the project at all during the most difficult times. But you grow into it and somehow it was hard for almost everyone no matter what the time. Then you take a few deep breaths and the world looks different again.

I wish you good luck and a steady hand for all the important decisions you (partly again) have to make.
