Why should you open and close it all the time? That’s pointless. No one uses those things like that. They always cover the lower half of the windows, which is enough in both bathrooms to shower in peace, etc.

Every auto or storefront lettering professional does that in no time for little money. Many retail stores have applied "satin finishes." This is also regularly used on glass doors/walls like those in bank buildings that want to combine transparency and discretion. The foil is adjusted with an installation aid, smoothed out, and separated from the transfer foil; you can’t pour carnival beer that fast.

The more you want to deviate from a full-surface satin finish/pattern, the more practical this method is. And in terms of price, it’s a completely different league.

Then you might as well make the window smaller by that part? If it is always covered, you might as well do without it?

Then the symmetry from the outside may no longer fit. At least for us, that was the reason to do it exactly as described by ares.

Yes, my argument was along those lines. I would want to avoid pleated blinds, fabric, curtains, etc. in the bathroom. Especially if I’m doing it new.

Films work quite well, I’ve done it several times. But you should take films that are cut to size. That’s a completely different quality. Afterwards, it’s almost impossible to tell that it’s a glued-on film. And: You’re flexible, there are different designs and translucencies.

If you like glass blocks, sure...

No light passes through a wall, a lot passes through a pleated blind, but they are opaque. So there is a difference.

I have never seen frosted glass or films look good. In the morning light in the bathroom here in this neighborhood, you could often see too much. And I don’t know if the residents are aware that you can tell where they are washing themselves with the washcloth.
Maybe there are better versions, it’s not my thing, but it’s a matter of taste. Or as we say here in Low German:
wat den sin Uhl, is den Andern sin Nachtigall
