Hello,

we are currently planning our bathroom and are wondering whether we should tile the walls in the bathroom floor-to-ceiling or half-height.

Bathroom: approx. 8 sqm
Guest WC approx. 1.8 sqm

half-height would be approx. 1.20m

I have 1.20. only in the shower 2.40. In the guest bathroom 1.30 because the pre-wall construction is that high and then it would have looked strange to be higher only there. Completely room-high is nowadays usually done only in commercial / office toilets or in wet rooms/sauna areas.

I also have it half-high, at the height of the [Vorwandinstallation]. Only in the shower 2 m high, at the height of the upper edge of the adjacent window. But I think everyone has to decide that for themselves. Whether "one" does it would be irrelevant to me, I would always do what I like.

It's just a matter of taste... There are also floor-to-ceiling tiles in single-family homes.

Visit exhibitions and get an impression for yourselves of what you like. Keep your eyes open at friends and acquaintances, everyone has at least one bathroom.

I wanted to gather experiences from you again

we have actually already decided:

Bathroom floor to ceiling (we are 99% sure about that)

Guest toilet half height 1.20m

We want to install the doors afterwards after handover from the developer.
So that we can carry out all the painting work without damaging the doors or frames

The only problem is that the developer will remove the last baseboard (if tiled)
and will not install the last wall tiles if the wall tiles are NOT tiled floor to ceiling (which they aren’t at 1.20m)

The baseboard is still the smaller problem to just stick on

but the wall tiles are the bigger problem to install afterwards yourself

The developer justifies it this way: He does it so there are fewer problems with the installation of the frames

That’s why we are currently considering tiling the guest toilet floor to ceiling as well to avoid the problem with the wall tiles

I would not install baseboards on a tiled wall.

The frame on a half-tiled wall is a problem.
Solution 1: stop one full tile width before.
Solution 2: tile up to the door opening (half-height); reinforce the door opening beforehand with XPS above the tiles, doubled in the thickness of the tile about 10 cm wide; the builder should then install the frame there. Cut off the protruding XPS afterwards (the area behind will need to be repainted).
Solution 3: agree in writing with the builder to accept the gap between the frame and the wall above the tiles. Later fill/seal it with a wooden strip or foam and acrylic.
Solution 4: not tile the wall with the door after all.
By the way, we are doing solution 3. But it is not finished yet. We also installed the doors ourselves...
