Hello everyone,

In 2 weeks the floor will be installed! We have a beautiful cork floor from Wicanders (with a PU decor layer).

Now we are considering: Which baseboards should go here.

What experiences have you had with baseboards.

- Which manufacturer or which variant did you choose.

- Are DIY store baseboards okay?

- White or "similar" color to the floor?

- Click system?

- Is there anything you were particularly satisfied with and can recommend?

I am looking forward to any advice / tips :)

We chose classic solid wood white. However, with oak parquet and light walls. Similar/same color as the floor can also look good, but for us it was a bit "old school" and we had seen enough of it in previous rental properties. In my opinion, a contrasting color looks a bit more lively/modern, but of course that is a matter of taste.

Hardware store baseboards are certainly "okay" depending on the product, but can even be more expensive than better quality from the internet ;)

In the past, I always used click systems, now the wooden baseboards are simply glued.

Recommendation: solid wood and preferably with a "groove" for cable management behind it.

Disadvantage of gluing: Later cable routing behind the baseboard will make it difficult to remove it without damaging it, correct?

Otherwise, I also see many or exclusively advantages with gluing. Certainly the easiest method.

How did you do the corners? Miter cut or equipped with special corner pieces?

I once had cork parquet myself and cut strips from the cork parquet for it, beveling the top edge (but then treated the strips again with varnish). Then fixed them with thin screws (which were slightly countersunk and thus almost invisible). But it was a special case because it was a very old house and everything was crooked and uneven, and standard strips were not really a solution. But a lot of work, the result I found "good". Now I have solid wood strips painted white with different wall colors from white to gray to "colorful" with dark wood parquet, I really find it beautiful and would also consider it fitting in combination with cork.

Foiled strips are junk (wiped three times and already ugly), just like those plastic strips in "wood look".

I’m currently browsing as well and see that the hardware store prices can easily be around €4.50/m². On the internet, you can find prices for solid wood baseboards from various online shops that are rather between €2.50 - €4.00/m².
