Architect's cost estimate realistic?

Then the architect should hand over his documents showing how he arrived at the calculation. So numbers, data, facts (and plans). You can then show them here and we will give our (price) input.

Does the likeable man have a monopoly position in the region? If not, maybe you should look for another architect? I mean, you go there wanting 125m² and he calculates 180m² for you. That would be like going to a car dealership, naming your budget, saying you want a compact class car, and the salesman takes you to the 5 Series BMW that is 50% over budget. My natural reaction would be to leave the dealership because I couldn’t find any basis... If it starts like that. It’s no fun to constantly question everything the architect does afterward, whether it fits or whether he perhaps unfolded the wrong plan again while drunk and the guest WC ends up being 18m² while the kitchen is only 4? An experienced architect should notice that the figures simply don’t add up. 910m³. Architects are not engineers, but they should have enough sense for dimensions and plausibility...

Keep it short and save yourself time: find another architect...
