Hello forum community,

unfortunately, during the inspection of the electrical installation, we had to observe that almost all windows have mechanical damage in the form of scratches and abrasions on both the inside at the plastic and the aluminum cladding on the outside.

The construction company has unfortunately already removed the protective film on the inside - probably even before installation. On some window sills, it looks as if the window was resting on the raw brick. On one window, there are two drillings in the frame that were started in the wrong place.

From various Google searches, I already know that "minor scratches" are probably not a reason for complaint. On the other hand, I have to say that with a new build, I can certainly expect new goods, right?

Is there a certain guideline regarding the scratches? We noticed the scratches despite dust and dirt in the shell construction...

Thanks & regards,
Daniel

We also had some scratches and fingerprints (in the glass) and had everything claimed. I pay for new goods and want to receive them as such. You wouldn't accept scratches on a new car either?! Everything that could be replaced was replaced.

A friend of ours experienced something similar; he had scratches on more than 10 newly installed windows and all the scratches were removed. When we built new several years ago, we had a scratch on one pane, and that pane was replaced, the frames were completely scratch-free and still are. It is therefore quite possible to install windows without any damage, and after all, you pay a lot of money for the new windows.

Best regards
Sabine

Today I also took a look at my windows, which were installed this week. We had decided on plastic windows with an aluminum shell on the outside. And I have to say that the windows are absolutely not perfect. On almost every window, I noticed small scratches or dirt. Some dirt came off with cleaning alcohol, others did not. On some panes, smaller inclusions are also visible. Sometimes the gap dimensions of the aluminum shell are not right, or you can see slightly squeezed-out adhesive. What I find quite strange, however, are the lower "covers" that form the end of the aluminum shell. They look like white plastic is just briefly painted with color. When closed, you can hardly see this from the outside. But it could still be done better. I also have to say that I am often picky. But my future neighbors also had such minor defects. Glass inclusions were replaced. So far, I have not yet spoken to the window manufacturer. Let's see what they say about it. Probably smaller things can also be polished out of the plastic. In the second picture you can see how the miter of the aluminum shell does not fit 100% and that one part sticks out further.

Phew, at least I’m not alone...

We had the appointment yesterday with the window guy and the site manager. The window installer did not show up. (Supi 1 with *).

The site manager took a close look at everything (we also noticed a big dent on the inside of a door, the seal at the top didn’t close properly anymore) and gave feedback today. According to the window installer, all of this can be corrected and polished.

With the dent, however, I’m worried – the whole window door was crooked there.

How was it for you: did the protective film stay on during the shell construction and installation phase? For us, it was already pulled off right after installation….

Well, when it’s about so much money... I’m being very precise now too. After all, I’ll be paying for this for the rest of my life^^

With us, the protective film is completely on it and will remain so until the last journeyman leaves the construction site.
They came like this, they will stay like this. Karsten
