with very different consumptions but not really ;)

if the room temperature in winter on average differs by 3 °C between the apartments and twice as much water is used and also almost twice the electricity....

it's not really a big deal either.
I put together Excel sheets yesterday and in 4 hours had everything ready so that at the end of the year I only have to enter the data I'm still missing.

The annual effort will then be about 1 hour in the future. That's really manageable and I imagined it to be worse.

If I didn't live in one of the two apartments myself, I would completely hand it over to an external company, but then I would have to pay for it. And as I said, the effort is really not that bad.

This is less about the effort of your work and more about the personal relationship with the circumstance of the tenancy.
Under these circumstances, hardly any reasonable person would impose a charge on their tenant.
At least, that is how the posts here are to be understood [emoji6]

That was just pragmatism. Billing consumption costs meters, heat meters, which are also not free. Saving these is not unattractive. But be that as it may.

I installed all the necessary meters etc. during the renovation. The costs were manageable. After a few years, I put them back in because the consumption etc. varies really greatly. We are rather frugal and mostly heat with wood. The tenants also have the option to heat with wood, but they use it significantly less and need it much warmer, are more people, need significantly more water etc.

Also, no one can tell me that they will live here forever. Possibly, it will have to be "rented out to someone else" at some point, and by then I would need the meters anyway.

So, it works fine for us the way we do it ;)
I was just wondering if I might have possibly forgotten something regarding the additional costs.
